Polaris Home Sleep is a company dedicated to improving the health of people who suffer from sleep disorders. It is estimated that almost 30% of the American population has some form of a sleep-related breathing disorder, the vast majority of whom remain undiagnosed. Unfortunately, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) has been shown to be associated with hypertension, coronary artery disease, stroke, congestive heart failure, obesity and diabetes. We believe that diagnosing and treating these disorders will have a meaningful and lasting impact on a patient’s long-term health.
Home Sleep Testing (HST) has recently been approved for reimbursement by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and a majority of the largest private insurers. Until now, formal sleep tests could only be conducted at dedicated sleep centers - foreign environments with patients hooked up to electrodes from head to toe, all monitored by video camera. Analysis of normal sleep in such a setting has been a challenge and the environment alone has prohibited many patients from ever being tested. HST on the other hand is able to be done in the comfort of a patient’s home often using little more than a finger probe and a nasal cannula.
At Polaris Home Sleep we believe HST represents an opportunity to capture those patients currently undiagnosed with OSA and at the same time allows physicians to bill for the testing and management of this disease. Polaris will work with you to facilitate the screening, testing, diagnosis and ultimate management of patients at highest risk for OSA.
